About WFFL
The West Fayette Friends of the Library (WFFL) was established in the
fall of 2005 exclusively for charitable, educational and public awareness
purposes, The organization consists of seven (7) members of the Board of
Directors and the general membership. WFFL is a non-profit, tax exempt 501
(c) 3 organization. All donations are tax exempt.
Until recently, our efforts were focused on establishing a library. All options
were investigated and pursued including independent status and affiliation with
the State Library Association both as a branch of the Somerville-Fayette County
Library and as a stand-alone library. At the present time, independent status
as been determined as the most effective way to begin the library.
The city of Oakland is negotiating with Oakland Deposit Bank to purchase the old
Oakland Hardware store located on Main Street. Assuming a successful negotiation,
we are hopeful a start-up library, operating 20 hours a week, can be in operation by
he end of 2009.
We can now begin to focus on our primary function of raising funds to supplement
the operation of the library. Examples of past fund raisers include book sales at
the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church Rummage Sale and the Oakland in October Festival where
Loven Fresh Bakery supplemented the book sale proceeds by sharing breakfast revenue with the WFFL.
Other fund raisers were an Iowa Caucus party at S&P in Oakland and a Christmas party at Lenny’s sub
shop in Oakland.
WFFL meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 PM. Meetings are currently being held in the Oakland
Chamber of Commerce office at 75 Clay Street in Oakland.
